Rhizobium transport systems

With the sequencing of both the Mesorhizobium loti and the Sinorhizobium meliloti genomes it has become apparent that there are a huge variety of transport systems and in particular ABC transport systems. We have been collating and analysing these transport systems and comparing them to P. aeruginosa. They have been classified according to their transport family as defined by Saier and summarised below. A number of phylogenetic trees have also been drawn including transporters from M. loti, S. meliloti and P. aeruginosa. A summary of the total number of ABC transporters and sub-families in S. meliloti, M. loti and P. aeruginosa illustrate the explosion in numbers of these transporters in the rhizobia. We have also collated a number of useful transport page links.

If you want to comment on any of these classifications please contact A.H.F.Hosie or P.S.Poole.
